Lettie Spencer Playing Field 

Wybunbury Road, Willaston, CW5 7JF

Willaston Parish Council owns and manages the playing field and has done so since 1952.  The playing field was opened on 29th May 1954 by England and Manchester City goalkeeper Frank Swift and Rose Queen Dorothy Waring. The playing field is named in memory of long serving councillor Lettie Margaret Spencer.

Opening Times

The playing field is open and available for use throughout the year as per the following times as resolved by the council.

The playing field opens at 7:30am Monday to Friday and by 9:00am on Saturday and Sunday. The playing field is closed at different times throughout the year as follows. November to February 5:00pm  March 6:00pm  April to May 7:00pm                 June to August 9:00pm  September 7:00pm  October 6:00pm

Outside of these times the playing field is closed and not available for permitted use. The council reserve the right to close the playing field at any time and without notice.   Times are subject to change dependant on Councillor availability.

 

Bylaws & Rules

Bylaws are in place with regards to the playing field: Willaston Parish Council Playing Field Bylaws

Please help us to look after the playing field by taking note of the following:

• No unauthorised motorcycles, cars, other motorised vehicles or horses/ponies allowed
• Dogs must be kept under proper control at all times
• Dog owners must clean up after their pets and use the bins provided
• Any litter should either be placed in the bins provided or taken away for appropriate disposal

No right of way exists between property boundaries and the Playing Field. The only route of access and egress is via the main gates on Wybunbury Road.

Persons contravening the above regulations or found doing willful damage to the playing field are liable to prosecution.

Please treat the area with respect and show consideration for other users and the Councillors and volunteers that manage the playing field.

Members of the public using this playing field and the facilities do so at their own risk.

Resurfacing Project

Our long awaited resurfacing within the Playing Field was completed on 17th August 2021. The works saw the resurfacing of the asphalt surfaces within the Playground area, ball court, path and entrance drive.  Floor graphics have also been added, these feature ball court markings, hopscotch, fitness trail and 'What time is is Mr Wolf'. Thank you to all residents for your patience on the days on which we had to close the Playing Field.  Finally this area has a more suitable and safer surface for all to enjoy and make use of.

Playground Area Update

Phase 1 of playground works have been completed during October 2020. This included the removal of 3 pieces of aged play equipment. The installation of 3 new pieces of comparable equipment. The safety surfacing around each piece of new equipment has also been replaced.   The zip wire has now been repaired and tensioned and was put back into use on Friday 17th July 2021.
